WebSep 20, 2024 · We compare two decision tree methods, the popular Classification and Regression tree (CART) technique and the newer Conditional Inference tree (CTree) technique, assessing their performance in a simulation study and using data from the Box Lunch Study, a randomized controlled trial of a portion size intervention. WebTo construct a so-called conditional inference tree, a significance test of the null hypothesis, that the response variable and a two-level group factor are not associated, is performed at each node of the tree, and the split chosen for which the test statistic most exceeds a prespecified nominal level.
